Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) experienced strong demand of its passenger car line-up, consisting of the Jazz, Accord, City and Civic models, with 1,030 unit sales in May. Launched last March, the refreshed Honda Jazz increased sales by 39% from March to May as compared to the same period last year. Presenting dynamic and vibrant styling plus legendary spacious interiors and fuel efficiency, the new Honda Jazz is clearly the hottest premium lifestyle hatchback in the market. And in keeping its products always fresh and updated, Honda subsequently revitalized its Accord model in May. With the introduction of the 2011 Honda Accord that promises absolute refinement and power beyond compare, sales nearly tripled as compared to sales in April.
Regrettably, the parts supply problem that resulted from the powerful earthquake that shook Japan last March still persists. Production volume of Honda’s regional network has been affected and has yet to normalize. Consequently, stock availability of all models, in certain engine displacements, transmissions and color options, remains to be an area of concern.
“Our sales performance is pleasant news. However, what is more important and what remains to be our top priority is to quickly serve customer requirement as much as possible, given the current situation,” said Mr. Voltaire Gonzales, HCPI’s Vehicle Sales and Corporate Communications Head.
"In behalf of HCPI, I would like to extend our sincere apology for the inconvenience being experienced by our waiting customers. Kindly bear with us as Honda makes every effort to normalize operations and deliver the joy of driving a brand new Honda at the soonest time possible," he added.
In the meantime, Honda's 28 dealerships nationwide will keep its customers posted for the latest developments on the delivery dates of their requirements.

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. recently staged a 4-day exhibition during the 3rd Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) at the World Trade Center. Having ‘Blue Skies for our Children’ as theme, the exhibit shared Honda’s fervent commitment to preserve the environment.
Honda has taken conservation measures as early as 1960s, long before environmental challenges have gone critically evident. In 1966, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Founder, Soichiro Honda once said, “Leave blue skies for our children.” This has been Honda’s longstanding commitment for more than four decades now.
Carried out in a friendly and airy fashion, the display showed Honda’s ecologically sound technologies that remain true to its promise. It featured the latest in Honda’s roster of cars: the Honda City, Jazz, Civic, CR-V and Accord. All powered by the ingenious i-VTEC engine, Honda vehicles make the most out of every drop of fuel by adjusting valve timing and valve opening combination to pump in fuel as needed only. Apart from fuel efficiency, Honda vehicles are also engineered to release less harmful emissions. Honda is the only local manufacturer that reaches EURO 4 levels for ALL its model line-up, even if Philippine regulations only mandate EURO 2 compliance. EURO 4 standards translate to approximately 56% reduction in harmful emissions as compared to EURO 2 standards. To date, almost 82,000 Honda units with EURO 4 levels have already been sold and ply Philippine roads.
Lessons learned from the CVCC (Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion) engine technology, the first engine to meet the almost then impossible emission standards of the 1970 U.S. Clean Air Act, have paved the way in the development of Honda’s new products and technologies which set the standard in mobility and environmental conservation.

In improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon footprint, Honda recognizes hybrid as the most practical technology at the moment. Honda’s original Insight introduced in 1999 was the first gasoline-electric car sold in the U.S. Using Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology, the gasoline engine serves as the main power source of the vehicle while the electric motor provides additional power as needed. Thereafter, other gasoline-electric powered models soon emerged like the Civic Hybrid and Accord Hybrid. Last year, Honda introduced the all-new Insight. Boasting excellent fuel economy at an affordable price, the Insight is designed to pass on hybrid technology to the mass market. A year after, the CR-Z model was launched in Japan. Equipped with 1.5 li i-VTEC engine, IMA technology and the world’s first 6-speed manual transmission in a hybrid, the CR-Z is a sports coupe that promises a responsive and enjoyable driving experience with the fuel efficiency of a hybrid. As of May 2010, Honda has cumulative global hybrid sales of 500,000 units.
In exploring alternative power sources, Honda has introduced models that use natural gas, ethanol and hydrogen. Honda’s FCX Clarity is a fuel cell electric vehicle that runs on hydrogen. In the fuel cell, hydrogen is combined with oxygen to produce electricity. FCX Clarity has ZERO carbon dioxide emission and that its only emission is potable water. What makes this technology even better is that its fuel efficiency is up to 3x that of a gasoline-powered vehicle and 2x that of a gasoline-electric powered vehicle.
As the challenging spirit lives on, Honda continues to bring in new insights in the field of mobility. Honda presented the development of U3-X during PIMS. U3-X is a new generation of personal mobility device that makes movement as easy and as natural as walking. It uses the same balance technology of ASIMO to maintain its upright position. It is capable of moving in every direction without having the need to turn the device. To achieve this, U3-X employ’s the world’s first omni-directional driving wheel system (Honda Omni Traction Drive System) which utilizes a larger, forward and backward moving inner wheel and a series of smaller sideways moving outer wheels. Meanwhile, diagonal movement is achieved when both forward and sideways moving wheels operate in tandem.
Weighing roughly 22 pounds, this lightweight and compact device has a foldable seat and retractable footrests for easy handling. In making the device both user and pedestrian-friendly, the structure of U3-X puts the rider at approximately the same eye-level as other people, just like when you are walking.
Its lithium-ion battery pack provides up to one-hour of power. Its battery can be recharged by simply plugging the device to a conventional 120-volt power outlet.
The possibilities are endless if you believe in the power of dreams. Naturally gifted with inquisitive minds and challenging spirit, Honda will never stop searching for technological breakthroughs to achieve sustainable mobility. Honda will tirelessly turn creative ideas into reality for our children to enjoy clear, blue skies.

See clearly and drive safely with clear headlamps. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. announces the introduction of its latest service that restores the condition of headlamp lens.
Over time, plastic headlamp lenses turn cloudy yellow in color. Exposure to UV rays, smog, acid rain, chemicals and other harsh elements cause plastic oxidation. This natural deterioration can pose danger when driving at night because hazy lenses impair vision and cut viewable distance, thereby, delaying perception and reaction to possible road hazards. Studies show that better visibility improve driving response time of up to a full second or more. At highway speed, this equates to almost four (4) cars of extra stopping distance.
Most shops only polish the headlamp lenses but Honda goes beyond the usual by including a re-application of a specially formulated UV protective coating which is cured using infra-red drying equipment as part of the package to shield lenses from harsh sunlight.
Restore your car’s headlamps back to its near original state within a few hours. Valued at Php 2,400, this is made available at the introductory rate of Php 1,400 which translates to more than 40% savings. This introductory rate is subject to change without prior notice. This new service is initially available at selected Honda dealers located in Quezon City, Kalookan, Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Isabela, Nueva Ecija and Ilocos Norte. In its non-stop drive for a greener future, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) recently gathered almost 100 students from the country’s premier universities like Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Enderun Colleges, Miriam College, University of Asia and the Pacific and University of the Philippines to promote environmental awareness among the leaders of tomorrow. Honda partnered with AIESEC Philippines, a global student organization that gives importance in world issues and leadership development, to actively face environmental issues that our society is going through.
In advocating green awareness, Honda organized a fuel efficiency driving competition called Honda Challenge Cup in the morning and an environmental forum in the afternoon.

Faced with the hurdles of unstable fuel prices, depleting fuel supply and excessive exhaust emissions, Honda challenged the students to make every drop of fuel matter and to initiate change among them. As novice drivers, Honda taught these young students the correct driving techniques in achieving better fuel mileage. Honda appealed among the participants to regularly apply these techniques in their daily trips and eventually turn it into a habit. Driving every drop of fuel may sound tricky but can be easily achieved by considering three basic factors: vehicle, driver and fuel. A proper vehicle, equipped with advanced technologies like the i-VTEC engine, which is driven using proper techniques and is powered with high grade fuel that aids better combustion all contribute in optimizing fuel economy.
To demonstrate these practical driving tips under real-world situations, Honda provided City, Jazz, Civic and Accord models during Honda Challenge Cup. This fuel economy competition posed various challenges in both city and highway driving conditions using normal driving style and with a running airconditioning system. Using the basic formula, VEHICLE plus DRIVER plus FUEL equals FUEL ECONOMY, the students were able to accomplish remarkable results. Joseph Manguiat and Princess dela Paz of the University of the Philippines posted 30.74 km/li using the 1.3 li City with automatic transmission. Luis Martinez and Paolo de Dios of the University of Asia and the Pacific topped the 1.5 City class with 19.53 km/li fuel mileage. As for the Jazz category, Earl Go and Marc Go of Ateneo de Manila University led 1.3 liter class with 21.64 km/li while Vince Murga and Ico Rivera, also from Ateneo de Manila University, led 1.5 liter class with 25.90 km/li. Meanwhile, the team of Edmarl Tecson and Brian Lee of Enderun Colleges generated 23.65 km/li using 1.8 Civic AT and Horace Cimafranca and Nadaine Tongco of the University of the Philippines posted 15.12 km/li with the 3.5 liter Accord AT.
By noon time, a new set of students arrived to witness fruitful exchange of information during the environment forum. Having “Working together towards environmental Harmony” as theme, the forum not only aimed to provide a situational background on the environment but also meant to identify the course towards achieving a sustainable society. While it is true that mankind’s activities have posed severe damage to Mother Nature, humanity is also the key to the solution. Economic development and environmental preservation can, in fact, exist harmoniously with the combined efforts and commitment of the three sectors of society namely: the general public, private sector and the government. And in giving a holistic perspective on this matter, guest speakers of the forum represented different sectors of society. Dr. Gerry Bagtasa of the University of the Philippines shared the actual situation of air pollution in the country while Mr. Roy Cabonegro of Partido Kalikasan talked about the Clean Air Act. To represent the private sector, Honda shared its vision and technological advancements that are geared toward sustainable mobility. Being one of the largest engine manufacturers in the world, Honda takes the lead in developing products and technologies with minimal impact on the environment.
In conducting an environment awareness campaign such as this, Honda hopes to inspire change and ably equip these future leaders in facing bigger challenges. Honda always takes pleasure in spending time with the youth. Just like these students, Honda is driven with youthful passions, dreams and ambitions that have led in the creation of innovative mobility products for the benefit of society.

The Honda City is the country’s subcompact sedan of choice not only for the motoring critics but the general public as well. Winning back-to-back recognition from two premier award giving bodies in the motoring realm, the introduction of the 3rd generation City early this year is a ground-breaking treat for the industry.
The Honda City is named the subcompact sedan of the year during the 5th Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards (AFPC) and the Car of the Year Awards (COTY). These awards groups aim to assist consumers in making a sound choice when purchasing a vehicle.
From July to September of this year, AFPC empowered the general public to vote for their favorite automobiles. AFPC winners were determined by tallying all votes generated from online, newspaper, magazine and radio polls. AFPC has been running its search for the most popular and most appealing automobiles in the market for five years now.
Meanwhile last October, the Car Awards Group Inc. composed of motoring journalists from print and broadcast media conducted qualitative and quantitative tests on qualified vehicles. Tested models included newly launched models with major modifications and those with upgrades that have effect on the power train, drive train or suspension.
“These recognitions are very dear to us because these attest the local market’s warm appreciation of the third generation City. Year 2009 is indeed very significant for the City. The third generation City has not only been introduced at the onset of the year but is also on its way in setting a new sales milestone. With City sales averaging to 3,400 units per year, the new City already hit more than 8,000 sales mark with still one month to go before the year ends. We thank our dear customers and the motoring media for their nonstop support.” said Mr. Hiroshi Shimizu, President and General Manager of Honda Cars Philippines, Inc.
The third generation City presents cutting-edge design and technologies that set new standards in it class. It bears sleek and powerful stance, spacious interior with advanced audio system and comes equipped with the i-VTEC engine technology. Merging modernism with practicality, the City simply changes the rules on how subcompacts should be like.
Honda has earned good reputation for its unceasing quest to improve its products and services. The birth of the first generation City in 1996 was Honda’s response to the growing demand for automobiles in the Asian market.
Through the years, the City’s over-all value for money package gained worldwide market acceptance as it came loaded with functionality features while keeping maintenance and fuel consumption costs low.
Such key strengths paved way for the 3rd generation City to reach beyond Asia and Oceania and advance to the Middle East, Europe and Latin America.
To know more about the award-winning City, visit any of Honda’s 26 authorized dealerships in the country. Be smart and schedule a testdrive.

People often select an automobile they feel is appropriate to their generation or lifestyle. In designing the Skydeck, Honda transcended these traditional boundaries to create an automobile appealing to people of a wider range of ages and lifestyles. Powered by a hybrid system and featuring compact, flexible packaging, the Skydeck is perfect for transporting people and the things that make people’s lives more fun. With an exterior design that is both distinctive and functional, this new kind of hybrid vehicle leaves behind the concepts of the past. It’s the car for a freer and more enjoyable way of life.
A low floor and low center of gravity for next-generation hybrid packaging

The packaging of the Skydeck features a low floor, a low center of gravity and a compact, lightweight and efficient hybrid system positioned within the center tunnel. Thanks to these elements and a layout featuring independent seats in the second row, the interior of the Skydeck is exceptionally roomy and comfortable.
An aerodynamic exterior for sporty styling and environmental performance
Unifying form and function with a sporty and clean design concept, the Skydeck’s exterior styling appeals to every generation of driver and helps provide the outstanding fuel economy expected of a hybrid. Underneath, the body features a low and wide stance with an aerodynamic form; on top, its one-motion flow complements the expansive windows and sweeping roof. The overall impression is fresh, open and advanced.
An interior offering the finest in both exhilaration and utility

While providing exceptional comfort, the six seats of the Skydeck are slender and sporty, contributing to the open, roomy feel of the interior. The second-row seats are motorized, enabling them to slide under the seats in front of them, making it easy to get in and out of the 3rd-row seating. In addition, the slender design of the third row seats allows them to lie flat against the floor. When the four rear seats are stowed, the Skydeck offers a large, flat area for convenient, high-utility cargo transport. The Skydeck features scissor doors in front and offset sliding doors in the rear.
Advanced features—fun plus functionality
The next-generation instrument panel features an easy-touse, visually intuitive interface for more enjoyable driving.
