This love month, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) promotes love for the environment to help keep blue skies for the children. HCPI recently invited students from the Ateneo Medical and Loyola Schools as part of its non-stop awareness campaign for fuel economy. The activity dubbed as the Honda Challenge Cup, was a fuel efficiency driving competition that imparted both realistic and economical driving techniques among participants. As the next generation of motorists, Honda taught these young students the correct way of driving to optimize fuel mileage.
To put into practical use these driving tips under real-world situation, Honda provided its clean, green driving machines like the City, Jazz, Civic and Accord for the use of the participants. Students were then tasked to consume the least amount of gasoline under city and highway driving conditions while using normal driving style and with a running air conditioning system.
Applying the basic formula in driving every drop of fuel, VEHICLE plus DRIVER plus FUEL equals FUEL ECONOMY, the students were able to accomplish remarkable results. Carlo Agdamag registered 16.08 km/li using the 1.3 Honda City. Anthony Regalado and Exodus Roxas posted 16.50 km/li with the 1.5 Honda City. Karl Coresis and Ryan Chung had 14.76 km/li with the 1.5 Honda Jazz. The tandem of Janjan Ibanez and Jason Cunanan registered 17.70 km/li with the 1.8 Honda Civic while Paolo Luz and Christopher Batan posted 13.06 km/li using the 3.5 Honda Accord.
“We always enjoy spending time with the youth --- our future leaders. We hope that whatever they learned today will be applied in their daily driving trips. Teaching proper and economical driving while they are young is key in forming correct habits,” said Mr. Hiroshi Shimizu, president and general manager of Honda Cars Phils., Inc. “We also take pleasure in finding similar characteristics with the youth. Just like these students, Honda remains youthful in its dreams and passions that have led the creation of innovative mobility products,” he added.
Ateneo engineering student, Mara Duterte, was very pleased to be part of the activity. “The things taught in the program, especially the driving techniques, are very valuable to us,” she said. Paulo Luz, Ateneo medical student added, “Seeing the actual fuel efficiency results is a great motivator for me to save gas in my everyday driving.”
“Since 1996, Honda has pioneered staging of fuel economy runs in the local industry, come high or low fuel prices. Honda has taken proactive measures in calling on everyone to get the most out of fuel, DRIVE EVERY DROP and reduce emissions as part of its longtime commitment to leave blue skies for our children.” said Mr. Voltaire Gonzales, Vehicle Sales and Corporate Communications Head of HCPI.

Honda Cars Philippines announces voluntary recall (0)
8:41 PM by kankan , under Honda Cars Philippines, honda recall
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. recently announced a voluntary safety recall of some Honda Fit (Jazz in the Philippines) and City models to replace lost motion springs and retainers with countermeasure parts.
Consequently, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) would like to inform its customers that a total of 5,468 units of combined 1.5 liter Honda Jazz and 1.5 liter Honda City, distributed from September 2008 to April 2010, are included in the safety measure.
Findings show that the high surface pressure between the lost motion spring retainers and rocker arm slippers results to increased retainer movement that might lead to spring breakage. The broken spring will then come into contact with other moving parts within the cylinder head and this will initially produce noise and in worst case, may cause engine to stall. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this defect. With the total safety of Honda vehicle users as priority at all times, HCPI is taking this voluntary safety recall to replace lost motion springs and retainer parts of affected units. Jazz and City models with the following frame numbers are included in the voluntary recall:
Letters of notice will be sent to concerned Jazz and City owners starting February 21, 2011. To conduct the voluntary recall in an orderly manner, customers are requested to call their respective dealers or the Honda Hotline at 1-800-1000-Honda (46632) or (02) 857-7240 and visit our website, www.hondaphil.com, for inquiries and details of scheduling. Replacement of affected parts will be carried out in all 28 authorized dealers and 3 service centers nationwide, free of charge.
Owners of Jazz and City models not included in the list above have no reason to worry since the affected parts are of different specifications. Other Honda models such as the Civic, Accord, CR-V, Pilot, Odyssey and HR-V sold and distributed by Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. are likewise not affected.

Volvo Cars is launching an app for the iPhone and iPad containing plenty of inspiration and information about the new Volvo S60. For instance, the user can style a Volvo S60, watch videos, read news, find a Volvo dealer and order a test drive.
The S60 app (application software) along with an S80L version in certain markets is now being launched by Volvo Cars and additional apps will be presented this spring. "Many customers use mobile phones and Internet tablets to search for information. Now we're simply ensuring that we are where our customers are, opening a window into the company," says David Holecek, responsible for Volvo Cars' digital strategy.
Among the functions included in the app, is a search tool that uses the mobile phone's built-in GPS function to locate and specify the route to the nearest Volvo dealer. It is also possible to book a test drive, and a configurator allows the user to build his or her own S60. These new functions are linked to the local market site and offer access to the latest news from Volvo Cars.
"We've integrated a number of unique features, such as using the mobile phone's built-in gyro to look around inside the car. If you turn the phone, the image viewed moves too, creating the impression that you're actually sitting inside the car," explains David Holecek.
More to come
More apps will be rolled out for additional Volvo models in conjunction with the Geneva motor show, which gets under way in early March. The target group consists of both potential and existing customers. "In some countries, we already offer iPhone and Android apps that control the car's heater for customers who subscribe to the Volvo On Call system, and we are also testing a digital instruction manual in the form of an app," reveals David Holecek.
An iPad app containing Volvo Cars' customer magazine, LIV, will also soon be launched. This app will provide access to some of the magazine's content along with a variety of bonus functions such as extra graphic image and film material.
All Volvo Cars' apps will be available for free downloading from the Apple App Store.
