Another world first safety technology in Volvo’s newest SUV.

Volvo Cebu proudly introduces the world’s first car that can stop traffic. And itself. In an event designed to stop guests in their tracks, Volvo has once again proved its position as a leader in safety technology with the launch of the Volvo XC60 with City Safety.

World-first City Safety as standard

Up to 90% of all traffic accidents are caused by driver distraction. 75% of all reported collisions occur at speeds of up to 30kph. Half of these occur in city traffic. With Volvo’s City Safety, the risk of slamming into the vehicle in front is lessened. A Volvo world-first standard safety feature, the laser sensor that is integrated into the top of the windshield at the height of the rearview mirror can detect vehicles and other objects up to 18 feet in front of the XC60's bumper. This laser-based technology can automatically brake the XC60 to help avoid running into a slower or standstill vehicle going at the same direction or mitigate the effects of a collision. In cases such as these, City Safety makes a crucial difference. Not only does it protect the driver and its passengers, it also limits the risk of injury to the occupants of the car in front.

“We are extremely pleased to formally introduce this groundbreaking vehicle to the Cebu market. The XC60 is not only stunning to look at but it is also a smart SUV – the first in the world that can stop itself when it detects an impending collision. It’s truly remarkable and we just want our valued clients and Volvo enthusiasts here in Cebu to experience a different breed of Volvo,” remarks Mr. Franklyn O. Ong, President of Pasajero Motors Corporation, the authorized dealer of Volvo cars in Cebu.

Volvo’s New Face

The Volvo XC60 exhibits Volvo’s new DNA -- an all-wheel drive SUV that carries the characteristics of Volvo’s Dramatic New Approach. The iconic badge in the trapezoidal grille has been made bolder, with the square blue plate removed, making the Volvo Ironmark exude more confidence and visibility. It swiftly fills the rearview mirror of the car in front - a signal that Volvo's dynamic future has arrived.

The XC60 previews Volvo's new face, with attitude and strength, filled with expression and personality. It artfully fuses the dynamic elements of a capable and robust crossover in its lower half and the sleek, fine lines of a sporty coupe up top. LED lamps strips in front enhances the unmistakable Volvo V-line bonnet while LED lights also set in the tail lamps give the pronounced shoulder line a more muscular look and act as a valuable safety aid.

The new XC60 is packed with energy on the inside too. All the passengers sit comfortably in the newly designed X-themed seats, yet it's obvious that the driver is in charge –surrounded by ergonomically designed instruments and intelligent safety systems than in any previous Volvos.

The introduction of Volvo’s first panoramic sunroof, available locally in the T6 version, considerably lightens the interior. With two glass panels that can be operated at the push of a button, this feature not enhances the experience of light and air in the Xc60 but also helps protect from UV radiation. The two-piece glass is also laminated for added safety.

Unleash your drive

With two variants launched locally – a highly-efficient 2.4L 5-cylinder turbodiesel engine running at 185bhp and a powerful 3.0L 6-cylinder twin-scroll turbo with CVVT spewing 285 bhp – customers can take their pick and choose the one that best suits their lifestyle. Whether it is in the city or in a jaunt out of town, the XC60 can perform with enthusiasm and poise.

Volvo's engineers have endowed the XC60 with a finely tuned suspension to provide both sporty handling and a smooth ride. The body is exceptionally rigid, while the sporty chassis setup enables the car to be precisely controlled to minimize roll tendencies in demanding driving situations. Volvo's DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control) function has been further developed in the new Volvo XC60 in order to help providing even more stable driving. DSTC registers deviations between the driver's intended direction and the car's actual direction. The enhanced DSTC function registers the car's roll rate as well, giving the opportunity to detect slowly built up skids.

Loaded with style and attitude, the Volvo XC60 is an all-road capable, sports-coupé sensational and technologically advanced. With its cutting-edge safety and modern Scandinavian design, the Volvo XC60 comes with new perspectives on urban traveling.

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. announced 71.5% sales growth for its Honda City during the first half of year 2009. According to the report released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI), total City sales from January to June reached 4,393 units, a significant increase from last year’s sales of 2,561 units. Out of the total 8,683 units Honda sold for the year, 51% are City models.

With City sales averaging to 3,400 units per year, the 4,000 unit sales mark just for the first half of this year indicated a new milestone for the City.

Essential in attaining such feat was the entry of the 3rd generation City in January. With cutting-edge styling and technologies, the City has indeed reshaped the industry standards for its class. It simply changes the rules on how subcompacts should be like.

If you log on to www.citychangetherules.com, the first thing that you notice is the innovatively aggressive look of the City. As the renowned contemporary graphic designer, April Greiman would say, “Design must seduce, shape, and perhaps more importantly, evoke emotional response.” The design team of the Honda City definitely had this idea whether they knew April Greiman or not. The Honda City has a masculine and dynamic look that acquired inspiration from an ‘arrowshot’ design. The sharp front mask is formed by a continuous design motif running from grille to headlights. The exterior of the City reflects a tense look and dynamic energy of a drawn bow ready to fire. The higher belt line promises a roomier interior. The City’s aerodynamic curves tell of structural design that does not cut into the space, comfort, or luxury of the interior. The wonders of modern engineering just never cease.

Step inside the interior and it delivers what the exterior hints at all along. The promise of the City, no pun intended, does not disappoint. The height adjustable driver seat provides better visibility and driving comfort. It also has a fuel consumption meter that indicates instantaneous and average readout, including estimated drivable distance before refueling. Every detail considered to generate just the right heat. Even the steering wheel has a tilt and telescopic adjustable option to give the best angle and optimize the driving experience. Its bigger cabin interior provides sheer ride comfort to passengers. You will be surprised how the leg and headroom have improved.

Honda has added other features to spice up the total package. The City provides high sound quality with its Flex Audio System that is specially designed for digital media. It can operate an iPod, MP3 player or any USB memory device.

The City’s design is more than aesthetically pleasing. With safety in mind, the Honda team has made sure to deliver the most value for one’s buck. Its safety features include an ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD with BA (Electronic Brake Force Distribution with Brake Assist) and dual SRS airbags (except for 1.3 A). Honda is also taking into consideration its impact on the environment. The City, just like any other Honda models, has achieved EURO 4 levels which go beyond what Philippine regulations require.

Get behind the wheel and let the class-leading City seduce you. Visit any of the 26 Honda dealerships located nationwide and schedule a testdrive. For more details, you may log on to www.hondaphil.com.

No matter where they go, people who are in control carry with them that striking sense of authority, that fine mixture of a tough mind and an eye for beauty, that quiet elegance that both seduces and commands respect. And these are the people who choose to drive a car that communicates the same. These are the people who choose to be behind the wheel of the Honda Accord.

Cruising through the streets, the Accord’s undeniably sporty yet stylish design merits a second look. Sitting atop 17” alloy wheels, the Accord’s huge dimensions and muscular design easily make it the center of attention. Every detail of the Accord speaks of power, from the metal wing shaped headlights and 6-point large grille to the forward-thrusting nose and dynamic camber. Despite its seeming aggressiveness though, the Accord is no unpolished gem. Its elegant side character lines, chromed accents, and stunning finish reveal its sophisticated grandeur.

The Accord’s interior dispels any doubt about its status as a luxury sedan. You can’t help but feel pampered as you settle comfortably on the ergonomically designed leather-trimmed seats. And nothing makes you feel more in control than the array of modern features and technology all within the touch of a button. The carefully laid-out new instrument panel design, paddle shift, and large Optitron meter ensure that you will have access to the gadgets and information you need in just a glance. The Accord is also loaded with top-of-the line audio system and air-conditioning system which includes a rear air vent. A sunroof and a rear electric sunshade are included in the Accord’s already long list of luxuries. And most of all, the Accord offers you tremendous amount of cabin and storage space no matter where you choose to sit.

The best part about the Accord though is that it is not just an empty beautiful shell. Like the people who choose it, the Accord possesses both luxury and power. And that power comes in the form of a 3.5 L i-VTEC V6 engine capable of unleashing up to 275ps at 6200rpm. Thanks to the innovative Variable Cylinder Management technology or more popularly known as VCM 643, the Accord wields its power like any true genius. VCM 643 allows the Accord to smoothly transition from 6- to 4- to 3-cylinder mode to maximize fuel efficiency and lessen harmful emissions. The full power of the 6-cylinder mode kicks in during start-up, acceleration, high-speed driving or uphill climbing. As the Accord goes to mid-speed driving, the engine switches to 4 cylinders. Then, for moderate speed driving such as cruising around town, the engine deactivates 3 cylinders and runs at 3-cylinder mode for optimum fuel efficiency.

The Accord also makes sure that the transition from one cylinder mode will not be bothersome to its passengers by using the Active Control Engine Mount and Active Noise Control system that cancel engine vibration during cylinder deactivation. In fact, the transition is imperceptible, save for the indicator light in the instrument panel. The Accord prides itself for its driving and ride comfort which earned it the award of “Most Comfortable Ride” in the Petron 2008 Autofocus Media’s Choice Awards. It has VGR (Variable Gear Ratio) for better steering accuracy, VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) and TCS (Traction Control System) to prevent slippage during an understeer or oversteer, and ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) to stop wheel lock-up during braking. Aside from improving the Accord’s driving performance, these features also ensure your safety on the road.

As one proverb goes, “It is impossible to overdo luxury.” And the Accord is proof of that. With its remarkable combination of style and power, the Accord communicates nothing less of being in control. You look at an Accord and you see success cruising down the street. Who wouldn’t want to be in that driver’s seat?

Go ahead. Indulge yourself with the premium grade driving performance of the most powerful Accord ever. This July, as much as Php 70,000 worth of promo offering can be applied on the interest rates of financing buyers. This brings down monthly amortization of 3.5 liter top of the line variant to Php 21,494 with 50% initial cash outlay. Aside from affordable financing schemes, one can opt for a worry–free driving option. The Php 70,000 promo subsidy can be applied on the insurance, LTO registration or accessories.
