Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. recently named Ms. Celia Moralita as winner of its ‘I Choose to Care’ advocacy contest on Facebook. Ms. Moralita, a public daycare school teacher, submitted her photograph while teaching students aged 4-7 the importance of protecting the environment and how to recycle trash. Caring for the environment comes natural for Ms. Moralita. Apart from shaping young minds at the daycare center, she also plays an active role in maintaining cleanliness in their community where she holds the Block Leader post.

Ms. Moralita is one of more than 19,000 fans of Honda’s Facebook account who promotes protection of blue skies for our children. “Honda’s campaign is very timely because we have an ongoing project at the daycare center that promotes the importance of keeping surroundings clean. I am happy that there is a company like Honda that takes environment protection seriously.” said Ms. Moralita. Meanwhile, Ms. Vivian Aguilar was the 1st runner-up by planting tree seedlings with her daughter and Mr. Michael Ramos was the Fan’s Choice by recycling used plastic bags and containers to lessen garbage that can clog and cause floods.

I Choose to Care contest aimed to raise environmental awareness and encourage sound measures in leaving blue skies for our children. Now on its 20th year of providing high quality products and services, HCPI upholds its global pledge way back in 1966 to leave blue skies for our children, as initiated by Honda’s founder, Soichiro Honda.

In celebration of its 16th year in the Philippines, Viking Cars, Incorporated, the official authorized distributor and dealer of Volvo cars in the country spent a casual and carefree evening with its valued clients at the exclusive Velocity Bar of the Marriott Hotel Manila.

Guests were welcomed with signature Volvo martinis as they were posed for the cameras and mingled with fellow members of the Volvo family. The easygoing vibe was punctuated with the presentation of the latest addition to the Volvo stable -- the All-New Volvo S60. Aside from the sumptuous fare and free-flowing libations, jazzy entertainment was provided courtesy of Baihana. No one left empty handed as the evening was sprinkled with raffle prizes ranging from Bizu truffles to accommodations and dining privileges at the Marriot Hotel Manila. Business World newspaper also gave out free subscriptions while Volvo lined up an array of prizes including Volvo currency checks worth PhP50,000.00, Car care kits, navigational system and rear seat entertainment system, among others.

It was a night of catching up and reminiscing as Volvo sweetly turns sixteen. Volvo first opened its doors at 2272 Chino Roces avenue (formerly Pasong Tamo Extension) and successfully introduced the 850 series in 1994 and the 960 in 1995. Since then it has launched several models and variants, establishing Volvo as one of the leading luxury car brands in the market to date. In the first quarter of 2009, Volvo Philippines launched in the local market the world’s first car that can stop itself – the new Volvo XC60. And for 2010, Volvo again introduced another groundbreaking piece of engineering – the All New Volvo S60 with Pedestrian Detection technology.

Even at the onset, Volvo Philippines was recognized as a market performer, receiving the Volvo Diamond Award as best importer from among twenty-three competing countries of Volvo Car International. This honor is given for outstanding performance in the areas of vehicle sales, parts and service operations, competitive positioning and customer satisfaction. SMC holds the distinction of being the first ever to bag the honor in only its first full year of operation.

The successful relationship that started in November 1994 has gained total sales of around 3,500 Volvo passenger cars in the country showing Volvo as a market leader in the large segment of the luxury car category.

In May 2005, Viking Cars, Incorporated inked the deal with Pasajero Motor Corporation and opened a dealership in Cebu. With the desire to provide for the needs of the burgeoning premium car market in Cebu and other nearby cities, Volvo has extended its reach and makes available to the market one of the world’s most safe and dynamic cars. Hinged on Volvo’s core values of Safety, Quality and Environment, Volvo’s mission is to always build cars for a better life – a unique offer in the premium segment that sets the company apart from its competitors. All Volvo cars are designed to be premium in design, build, fit and finish. They are safe, are engineered in a way that considers humans and the environment and created to provide the best solutions for traveling together. Design is considered as a collaboration between styling and engineering which creates premium cars with a sophisticated content.

VCI currently offers a wide range of Volvo models. These include cars under the V-Range, S-Range, C-Range, and XC-Range. The V-Range speaks for versatility, family and leisure. Through the years, we have consistently delivered practical, versatile, and robust family cars that include the innovative V50 Sportswagon and Volvo V70. The XC-Range that includes the All-New Volvo XC70, XC90 and XC60 is a range of modern, adventurous cars with iconic body styles. The S-Range is a stylish and elegant interpretation of the classic sedan. This range includes the Volvo S40, S60 and S80 premium sedans. The C-Range includes coupes and convertibles – the kind of cars you fall in love with. This indulgent and rewarding range includes the All-New Volvo C70 and the C30 Sports CoupĂ©.

For 16 years now, VCI hopes to continue its front-running market performance with a wider product offer and larger distribution network and establish the Volvo brand as an active and leading exponent of motoring safety and environmental care.

All-New Volvo S60 in action

Unleashed into the Philippine automotive scene with a wild and spirited attitude, the All-New Volvo S60 further rears its head into the picture by daring members of the motoring media to capture its lithe, muscular frame into film.

In a film-themed kick-off activity, members of the automotive media were ushered into an art gallery that showcased different interpretations of the new generation S60. The choice of venue once again reinforces Volvo’s dedication to great design, allowing guests to navigate first fine pieces of modern art and interior design pieces.

Films are all about emotion, motion, and experience. Much like the All-New Volvo S60 that is a dynamic sports sedan meant to be experienced and stir emotions with its sheer power and animalistic appeal. The activity presented the journalists an opportunity, within a scheduled period, to take the All-New Volvo S60 T6 for a drive. They must be able to film the car in action during the time that the 304 hp-spewing S60 is in their hands. These videos shall then be uploaded to the Volvo Philippines Facebook page all at the same time and media participants may then invite everyone to view their entries to garner the most number of likes, which comprises 50% of the judging criteria. The other 50% will come from the decision of the judges will choose the video that has the best interpretation of the theme The All-New Volvo S60: Made for Action. Winners will be announced in a culminating activity in March 2011 where the winning group will get an all-expense paid trip to Universal Studios Singapore for a weekend.

An offspring of style and performance – the S60 is an unmistakable representative of Scandinavian design at its best fused with thoughtful considerations in driving dynamics. Aside from the carefully thought out exterior and interior designs, the new S60 also has a new infotainment system where information from the audio unit, navigation system, mobile phone and other functions is presented on a five-inch or seven-inch color screen in the upper part of the centre console. The driver has access to all infotainment functions via controls in the steering wheel.

It wouldn’t be a Volvo if it doesn’t come with class-leading and world-first safety innovations. Along with City Safety – a world-first preventive safety technology that automatically brakes if the driver fails to react in time when the vehicle in front slows down or stops – it also introduces another Volvo first which is Pedestrian Detection.

Pedestrian Detection with full auto brake is a groundbreaking technological solution. It can detect pedestrians who walk into the road in front of the car, warn the driver - and automatically apply full braking power if the driver does not respond in time.
In an emergency situation, the driver first receives an audible warning combined with a flashing light in the windscreen's head-up display. At the same time, the car's brakes are pre-charged. If the driver does not react to the warning and an accident is imminent, full braking power is automatically applied. Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake can avoid a collision with a pedestrian at speeds of up to 35 km/h if the driver does not react in time.

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) presents with pride the holding of the 5th Body Repair and Paint National Technicians’ Contest on November 21, 2010 (Sunday) at Honda Cars Batangas.

The event, which is held every other year, highlights the skills of associates from the Body Repair and Paint areas. Participants for this year are thirty-three (33) associates from eleven (11) dealers namely, Honda Cars Quezon City, Honda Cars Kalookan, Honda Cars Pangasinan, Honda Cars Manila, Honda Cars Tarlac, Honda Cars Laguna, Honda Cars Isabela, Honda Cars Ilocos Norte, Honda Cars Cavite, Honda Cars Batangas and Honda Cars Nueva Ecija. Honda Cars Bulacan associates shall appear as guest participants in this competition.

The contest will be judged according to the participants’ skills in repair process following Honda’s procedural and time standards. Honda Cars Philippines for the past several years had been advocating the use of high efficiency and quality BP tools which includes, among others, body aligner, metal inert gas (MIG) and spot welding machines, air saw panel cutting tools, and the use of dry sanding process, dust-free masking paper, and two (2)-system paint booth. HCPI and its selected dealers are also engaged in developing in-house BP technicians instead of relying on outside contractors in doing repair of customers’ cars to assure the quality of service. The training programs are patterned to the Global Honda standards with the support and cooperation of accredited paint and equipment suppliers. Part of the training is towards Honda’s solid commitment in environment protection, and safety. As paint partly contributes to the deposit of harmful fumes to the environment, Honda teaches proper painting techniques and uses HVLP (high volume, low pressure) spray paint equipment which lessens overspray, improves transfer efficiency and lessens paint wastage. These measures conform to its longtime environment pledge to leave blue skies for our children, as initiated by Honda’s founder, Soichiro Honda way back in 1966.

Apart from honing repair and painting skills, the competition also aims to enhance correct BP repair estimation, again following Honda standards. All these efforts are eventually towards improving Honda’s overall services to our valued clients.

Event partners that support this endeavor include DUPONT Far East Inc., Philippines, Paint Marketing Company Philippines, Inc. (NIPPON), Blue Lazer Corporation (KANSAI), PPG Industries Sales, Inc., Emicor, Inc., Three Bond, E. Bros & Company, Inc., 3M Philippines, Suburbia Automotive Ventures, Inc. (SAVI), and Welcome Export.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Honda upholds its longtime pledge way back in 1966 to leave blue skies for our children as initiated by Honda’s founder, Soichiro Honda. As a testament to its commitment to preserve the environment, HCPI partnered with both private and government sectors to embark on an environment forum that covered various approaches in attaining sustainable mobility.

The forum held last week aimed to provide awareness on the country’s environmental state as well as the government’s and various non-government organization’s efficiency programs to encourage wider participation from both private and public sectors. With an escalating volume of motor vehicles on the road, collaborative measures from the different members of society are essential to realize sustainable mobility.

Present at the forum was Honda Motor Co. Ltd.’s Environment and Safety Planning General Manager, Mr. Michio Shinohara who shared Honda’s environmentally sound technological advancements, global efforts and challenges. Apart from developing clean and fuel efficient engine technologies, Honda’s commitment to the environment is also reflected in its manufacturing and dealership operations. Mr. Hiroshi Shimizu, President and General Manager of Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. imparted details of its green operations in the local setting.

Presenting the inconvenient truth about the actual state of the Philippines’ natural environment was Haribon Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer Mr. Blas Tabaranza, Jr.

In addressing climate change, Assistant Secretary Mario Marasigan of the Department of Energy covered the country’s direction and efforts to achieve energy efficiency and conservation.

Meanwhile, the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI), the Philippine Business for the Environment (PBE) and the Partnership for Clean Air (PCA) were promoting the United Nations Environment Programme and the Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles toolkit for clean fleet management. Ms. Glynda Bathan, Policy and Partnership Manager of CAI shared some insights on how to measure and reduce carbon footprints of fleet vehicles. PBE and CAI initially collaborated with Honda when these organizations joined its fuel efficiency driving competition program called the Honda Challenge Cup. The Honda Challenge Cup, established in 1996, promotes fuel economy under normal, day-to-day driving conditions.

Mr. Jose Noda, Senior Technical Consultant of Green Philippines Islands of Sustainability (GPIoS) was also at the forum to advocate environment-friendly operations that can translate into profit. GPIoS is an initiative funded by the European Union's SWITCH-Asia Programme to help improve green and sustainable industrial development in Metro Manila and in CALABARZON region.

Apart from environment preservation, Honda is also at the forefront of promoting safety as part of its social responsibility. Honda invited Assistant Secretary Dante M. Lantin of the Department of Transportation and Communication to discuss the status of road safety in the Philippines as well as the agency’s intended direction and programs. Complementing this subject was Honda Safety Driving Center’s (HSDC) exhibit at the forum. HSDC is a world-class driving facility that offers both automobile and motorcycle riding courses within a safe and controlled environment.

Honda also took this opportunity to launch its upcoming eco-alliance with government agencies and Haribon Foundation. “The Honda group of companies, consisting of Honda Cars Philippines, Inc., Honda Philippines, Inc., Honda Parts Manufacturing Corporation and Honda Trading Philippines, through the Honda Foundation, signs a Memorandum of Agreement to share with government fleet our technical expertise and facilities for fuel efficient and safe driving training. Also, we are signifying our full support to Haribon Foundation’s Road to 2020 project. Road to 2020 aims to restore one million hectares of Philippine rainforests using native tree species by year 2020 in order to recover biodiversity. The Honda Foundation has pledged to support 20 hectares.” said Mr. Hiroshi Shimizu, president and general manager of Honda Cars Philippines, Inc.

The forum’s panel of reactors was composed of Mr. Vicente Mills Jr., president of Philippine Automotive Federation, Inc., Governor Oliver Butalid of the Board of Investments, Ms. Grace Favila, NGO Adviser of Philippine Business for the Environment, Professor Benjamin Bagadion of the Asian Institute of Management and Dr. Jose Regin Regidor, director of U.P. National Center for Transportation Studies. Other sectors also present to show support were members of the largest student-run organization AIESEC, Honda Challenge Cup Fleet Partners and Honda’s dealership and supplier network.

“The welfare of the environment is everybody’s concern. The only way of achieving sustainable mobility is by working together as one. Through the Blue Skies Alliance, Honda hopes to give the environment due care and attention for the benefit of generations to come.

The forum was also made available for viewing at www.hondaphil.com through live web streaming for the benefit of almost 18,000 Honda Facebook fans supporting the ‘Blue Skies for our Children’ movement since we launched the campaign online less than three months ago.” said Mr. Voltaire Gonzales, Vehicle Sales and Corporate Communications head of HCPI.

Toyota City, Japan, October 7, 2010—Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announces that worldwide cumulative sales of the Toyota “Prius”—the world's first mass-produced gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle—have passed the 2-million mark, with approximately
2,012,000 units sold as of the end of September1. Currently, Prius sales are robust in more than 70 countries and regions, particularly in Japan and North America.

The Prius was launched in Japan in 1997 and began selling in Europe, North America and other markets in 2000. The second generation was released in 2003 and the third generation in 2009.

The third-generation Prius employs the Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II) with a motor speed reduction device. More than 90% of the THS II was redesigned for the third generation, which boasts a world-leading2 fuel efficiency of 38.0 km/L3 and driving
performance on a par with that offered by a vehicle with a 2.4-liter conventional engine. Reflecting its name derived from “to go before” in Latin, the Prius, with four selectable driving modes and available advanced features such as a solar powered ventilation system, represents a pioneering, innovative step forward.

Based on sales figures collected up to September 30, 2010, TMC believes that the Prius worldwide has contributed to a reduction in CO2 emissions4 by producing approximately 11 million tons5 less CO2 when compared with gasoline-powered vehicles in the same class and of similar size and driving performance.

As part of its high-priority environment-management policies, Toyota has made a concerted effort to promote and popularize hybrid technology, chiefly through the Prius. Toyota aims to put this flexible technology to best use, aiming to annually sell at least 1 million hybrid vehicles as early as possible in the 2010s.

Stuttgart. Very low-slung, very sporty, and very rare: The Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, launches a small edition of a new 911 Speedster. Paying homage to the first Porsche model that bore the name Speedster – the 356 Speedster –, the production run for the new model is limited to 356 cars. The two-seater is significantly different from the other members of the 911 family. In the best tradition, the 60 millimetre lower, more raked windscreen, the flat contour of the sporty-look manual hood, and the characteristic double-bubble hardcover for the soft top define the striking profile of the new 911 Speedster. This makes the body of this rear-wheel drive with its 44 millimetre wider rear stand out even more. The new Porsche 911 Speedster will celebrate its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in early October.

The new 911 Speedster combines the classic features of this type of Porsche sports car with further improved performance of the current 911 generation: The 3.8-litre flat six delivers 408 hp (300 kW), 23 hp more in comparison with the 911 Carrera S. With its average consumption of 10.3 litres/100 km (27.43 mpg imp) (NEDC), the new Speedster is no less efficient than the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet without Powerkit – an effect of Porsche Intelligent Performance. The seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) is in charge of transmitting power to the rear axle fitted with a standard differential lock. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) are standard, too. Add to that exemplary protection for driver and passengers in the new 911 Speedster. Especially for this model, the Porsche engineers further improved the rollover protection system which is standard in all open-top Porsche cars.

The conception of the current Speedster comes from Porsche Exclusive – the company-owned "enhancer" specialising in individualisation of Porsche cars and small series. The 911 Speedster heralds the 25th anniversary of Porsche Exclusive which will be celebrated in 2011, and once again, demonstrates the small-series competence of Porsche Exclusive after the big success of the 911 Sport Classic.

Living up to the Porsche Exclusive standard, the 911 Speedster features almost all optional equipment of the 911 series and its appeal also comes from its meticulously hand-finished interior in black smooth-finish leather with numerous exterior colour painted details exclusive to the Speedster. These include decorative designs with checkerboard patterns in the seat centre section of the adaptive sports seats reminiscent of a chequered flag, and the leather side bolsters in the exterior colour.

The sporty flavour is further enhanced by the exterior colour “Pure Blue” that has been developed exclusively for the Speedster, providing an intriguing contrast with the tinted front lights, black headlight rings, black windscreen surround and other black decorative designs. Upon request, the Speedster is available in Carrara White, at no extra cost. It also features a special front apron, specific sideskirts and a distinct rear apron.

In 1953, the Speedster series was launched with a puristic sports car based on the Porsche 356, which had two sports bucket seats, doors with slide-in plastic side windows, and a shortened, elegantly curved windscreen. In 1988, the Speedster based on the 911 Carrera celebrated its revival with an added feature. For the first time, the hood compartment lid had the characteristic double bubbles. In 1993/1994, the next evolutionary stage of the 911 Carrera was ushered in with yet another Speedster.

In Germany, the 911 Speedster including country-specific equipment and 19 % VAT is priced at Euro 201,682 and will be launched in December 2010.

Volvo's pioneering Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake technology has been named winner of the Car Safety category at the annual BusinessCar Techies awards. This is Volvo’s second consecutive win in the Car Safety category. This world-first technology can detect pedestrians in front of the car, warn if anyone walks out into its path and then automatically activate the car's full braking power if the driver fails to respond in time.

Paul Barker, Editor of BusinessCar, said: "Volvo's continuing commitment to pioneering safety developments is unsurpassed in the motoring industry, and a key reason for its second consecutive BusinessCar Techies victory. The Pedestrian Detection system takes vehicle safety into an area no other manufacturers are seriously addressing, and comes on the back of other industry leading innovations such as City Safety which show Volvo's reputation for safety excellence is well founded."

Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake consists of a newly developed radar unit integrated into the car's grille, a camera fitted in front of the interior rear-view mirror, and a central control unit. The radar's task is to detect any object in front of the car and to determine the distance to it, while the camera's job is to determine what type of object it is. The system can detect pedestrians who are over 80 cm tall, including children.

In an emergency situation, the driver initially receives an audible warning combined with a flashing light in the windscreen's head-up display - resembling a brake light. At the same time, the car's brakes are pre-charged. If the driver does not react to the warning and an accident is deemed as imminent, full braking power is automatically applied to bring the car to a stop.

Half of all pedestrian accidents occur at speeds below 15 mph. This technology can avoid a collision with a pedestrian at speeds up to 21 mph if the driver does not react in time. At higher speeds, the focus is on reducing the car's speed as much as possible prior to the impact.

A lower speed of impact means that the risk of serious injury is significantly reduced. For instance, if speed is cut from 31 mph to 15 mph, Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake is expected to reduce the fatality risk as much as 20 per cent and, in some cases, up to 85 percent.

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI), in its green advocacy to leave blue skies for the children, was supported by Honda Club of the Philippines (HCP) in the recently concluded 3rd Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

A total of 300 from HCP brought their Honda vehicles and gathered at the World Trade Center to act as Honda’s brand ambassadors in promoting green motoring.

“Together as a club, we are proud and thrilled to join Honda in this worthy cause. This is our simple way of expressing our accordance with environmentally responsible driving. With green engineering behind i-VTEC engines, owning a Honda imparts a badge of environment-friendliness.” said Mr. Jong Herrera, President of HCP.

In driving a Honda, HCP members, together with other Honda owners, help preserve the environment by consuming less fuel and by releasing less harmful emissions. All powered by the ingenious i-VTEC engine, Honda vehicles make the most out of every drop of fuel by adjusting valve timing and valve opening combination to pump in fuel as needed. Apart from fuel efficiency, Honda vehicles are also engineered to release less harmful emissions. Honda is the only local manufacturer that reaches EURO 4 levels for ALL its model line-up, even if Philippine regulations only mandate EURO 2 compliance. EURO 4 standards translate to approximately 56% reduction in harmful emissions as compared to EURO 2 standards. To date, almost 82,000 Honda units with EURO 4 levels have already been sold and ply Philippine roads.

“It was truly an amazing sight to behold 180 Honda vehicles all gathered in one venue! We are grateful for the passionate support of Honda enthusiasts in joining us for this green cause” said Mr. Voltaire Gonzales, Vehicle Sales and Corporate Communications Head of HCPI. “Another reason for great celebration is Honda Cars Philippines, Inc.’s upcoming 20th year of manufacturing clean and green driving machines this October. We are extremely excited to share this meaningful celebration with everyone.” he added.

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. recently staged a 4-day exhibition during the 3rd Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) at the World Trade Center. Having ‘Blue Skies for our Children’ as theme, the exhibit shared Honda’s fervent commitment to preserve the environment.

Honda has taken conservation measures as early as 1960s, long before environmental challenges have gone critically evident. In 1966, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Founder, Soichiro Honda once said, “Leave blue skies for our children.” This has been Honda’s longstanding commitment for more than four decades now.

Carried out in a friendly and airy fashion, the display showed Honda’s ecologically sound technologies that remain true to its promise. It featured the latest in Honda’s roster of cars: the Honda City, Jazz, Civic, CR-V and Accord. All powered by the ingenious i-VTEC engine, Honda vehicles make the most out of every drop of fuel by adjusting valve timing and valve opening combination to pump in fuel as needed only.

Lessons learned from the CVCC (Compound Vortex Controlled Combustion) engine technology, the first engine to meet the almost then impossible emission standards of the 1970 U.S. Clean Air Act, have paved the way in the development of Honda’s new products and technologies which set the standard in mobility and environmental conservation.

In improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon footprint, Honda recognizes hybrid as the most practical technology at the moment. Honda’s original Insight introduced in 1999 was the first gasoline-electric car sold in the U.S. Using Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology, the gasoline engine serves as the main power source of the vehicle while the electric motor provides additional power as needed. Thereafter, other gasoline-electric powered models soon emerged like the Civic Hybrid and Accord Hybrid. Last year, Honda introduced the all-new Insight. Boasting excellent fuel economy at an affordable price, the Insight is designed to pass on hybrid technology to the mass market. A year after, the CR-Z model was launched in Japan. Equipped with 1.5 li i-VTEC engine, IMA technology and the world’s first 6-speed manual transmission in a hybrid, the CR-Z is a sports coupe that promises a responsive and enjoyable driving experience with the fuel efficiency of a hybrid. As of May 2010, Honda has cumulative global hybrid sales of 500,000 units.

In exploring alternative power sources, Honda has introduced models that use natural gas, ethanol and hydrogen. Honda’s FCX Clarity is a fuel cell electric vehicle that runs on hydrogen. In the fuel cell, hydrogen is combined with oxygen to produce electricity. FCX Clarity has ZERO carbon dioxide emission and that its only emission is potable water. What makes this technology even better is that its fuel efficiency is up to 3x that of a gasoline-powered vehicle and 2x that of a gasoline-electric powered vehicle.

As the challenging spirit lives on, Honda continues to bring in new insights in the field of mobility. Honda presented the development of U3-X during PIMS. U3-X is a new generation of personal mobility device that makes movement as easy and as natural as walking. It uses the same balance technology of ASIMO to maintain its upright position. It is capable of moving in every direction without having the need to turn the device. To achieve this, U3-X employ’s the world’s first omni-directional driving wheel system (Honda Omni Traction Drive System) which utilizes a larger, forward and backward moving inner wheel and a series of smaller sideways moving outer wheels. Meanwhile, diagonal movement is achieved when both forward and sideways moving wheels operate in tandem.

Weighing roughly 22 pounds, this lightweight and compact device has a foldable seat and retractable footrests for easy handling. In making the device both user and pedestrian-friendly, the structure of U3-X puts the rider at approximately the same eye-level as other people, just like when you are walking.

Its lithium-ion battery pack provides up to one-hour of power. Its battery can be recharged by simply plugging the device to a conventional 120-volt power outlet.

The possibilities are endless if you believe in the power of dreams. Naturally gifted with inquisitive minds and challenging spirit, Honda will never stop searching for technological breakthroughs to achieve sustainable mobility. Honda will tirelessly turn creative ideas into reality for our children to enjoy clear, blue skies.

With its modern styling and thoughtful appointments for the passengers, NMPI’s newest offering has been designed and engineered to provide lasting value in a luxury sedan.

This is the third new vehicle launched by NMPI in 2010, following the launch of the all-new Nissan X-Trail CVT and Nissan Sentra 200 earlier this year, and marking the next step in the company’s expansion into this fast growing market.

“When we decided to launch our third vehicle, we wanted to take advantage of the growing luxury segment,” NMPI President and CEO Allen Chen said. “We are confident that the customers' expectations and demands of a luxury vehicle match what this superior sedan provides. Our primary objective in introducing this new vehicle is to offer the Filipino motorists the best choice in its class.”

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) recently named the winning CR-V shots at the opening of its photo exhibit in Alabang Town Center.

Honda, in cooperation with Canon Marketing Philippines, organized an automotive photography workshop among Club EOS members for better appreciation of car design and styling. Under the guidance of master photographer John Chua, participants learned key techniques in capturing the car’s most complementing lines and over-all premium finish.

The 2010 Honda CR-V was the chosen subject of the workshop. With its new front grille design, refreshed bumpers, modern alloy wheel designs and clear-cut lines, the photography workshop aimed to creatively capture the more refined yet tougher look of the CR-V.

More than just styling, the CR-V is environment-friendly too. The CR-V, just line any other Honda models, has cleaner exhaust emissions that meet the stringent EURO 4 levels, even if Philippine regulations only require EURO 2.

To bring out these key strengths of the CR-V, Honda challenged the participants to creatively work on the themes ‘Sophistication and Refinement’ and ‘In Harmony with Nature.’

The photograph that best captured the CR-V’s urbane styling was shot by Mr. Aris Satorre. “The Mediterranean-inspired backdrop blended well with the CR-V’s stylish color, Urban Titanium. I also highlighted the contour of the vehicle and matched it with the lines of the surroundings.” said Mr. Satorre.“ When asked about his inspirations in photography, he replied “I put my heart and full effort every time I am taking photographs. My faith and my whole family inspire me in capturing the best shots of my life.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Tynn Daez bested the entries under the environment theme. He took a photo of the CR-V in a rustic setting, surrounded by lush trees and horses enjoying the fresh green grass.

“When we first organized this car photography workshop, we just wanted to unleash another type of photography, other than landscapes and portraits. We thought of having this specialized type of workshop for viewing pleasure of car designs. But eventually, we realized that this was more than a workshop. More than fueling one’s passion in photography and cars, this activity has led to new insights, friendship and inspiration to master one’s craft.” said Mr. Hiroshi Shimizu, President and General Manager of HCPI.

The CR-V photo exhibit will soon hit Honda’s 27 dealerships nationwide. For updates on display schedule, please visit www.hondaphil.com.
