All-New Volvo S60 in action

Unleashed into the Philippine automotive scene with a wild and spirited attitude, the All-New Volvo S60 further rears its head into the picture by daring members of the motoring media to capture its lithe, muscular frame into film.

In a film-themed kick-off activity, members of the automotive media were ushered into an art gallery that showcased different interpretations of the new generation S60. The choice of venue once again reinforces Volvo’s dedication to great design, allowing guests to navigate first fine pieces of modern art and interior design pieces.

Films are all about emotion, motion, and experience. Much like the All-New Volvo S60 that is a dynamic sports sedan meant to be experienced and stir emotions with its sheer power and animalistic appeal. The activity presented the journalists an opportunity, within a scheduled period, to take the All-New Volvo S60 T6 for a drive. They must be able to film the car in action during the time that the 304 hp-spewing S60 is in their hands. These videos shall then be uploaded to the Volvo Philippines Facebook page all at the same time and media participants may then invite everyone to view their entries to garner the most number of likes, which comprises 50% of the judging criteria. The other 50% will come from the decision of the judges will choose the video that has the best interpretation of the theme The All-New Volvo S60: Made for Action. Winners will be announced in a culminating activity in March 2011 where the winning group will get an all-expense paid trip to Universal Studios Singapore for a weekend.

An offspring of style and performance – the S60 is an unmistakable representative of Scandinavian design at its best fused with thoughtful considerations in driving dynamics. Aside from the carefully thought out exterior and interior designs, the new S60 also has a new infotainment system where information from the audio unit, navigation system, mobile phone and other functions is presented on a five-inch or seven-inch color screen in the upper part of the centre console. The driver has access to all infotainment functions via controls in the steering wheel.

It wouldn’t be a Volvo if it doesn’t come with class-leading and world-first safety innovations. Along with City Safety – a world-first preventive safety technology that automatically brakes if the driver fails to react in time when the vehicle in front slows down or stops – it also introduces another Volvo first which is Pedestrian Detection.

Pedestrian Detection with full auto brake is a groundbreaking technological solution. It can detect pedestrians who walk into the road in front of the car, warn the driver - and automatically apply full braking power if the driver does not respond in time.
In an emergency situation, the driver first receives an audible warning combined with a flashing light in the windscreen's head-up display. At the same time, the car's brakes are pre-charged. If the driver does not react to the warning and an accident is imminent, full braking power is automatically applied. Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake can avoid a collision with a pedestrian at speeds of up to 35 km/h if the driver does not react in time.
