The Honda City is the country’s subcompact sedan of choice not only for the motoring critics but the general public as well. Winning back-to-back recognition from two premier award giving bodies in the motoring realm, the introduction of the 3rd generation City early this year is a ground-breaking treat for the industry.
The Honda City is named the subcompact sedan of the year during the 5th Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards (AFPC) and the Car of the Year Awards (COTY). These awards groups aim to assist consumers in making a sound choice when purchasing a vehicle.
From July to September of this year, AFPC empowered the general public to vote for their favorite automobiles. AFPC winners were determined by tallying all votes generated from online, newspaper, magazine and radio polls. AFPC has been running its search for the most popular and most appealing automobiles in the market for five years now.
Meanwhile last October, the Car Awards Group Inc. composed of motoring journalists from print and broadcast media conducted qualitative and quantitative tests on qualified vehicles. Tested models included newly launched models with major modifications and those with upgrades that have effect on the power train, drive train or suspension.
“These recognitions are very dear to us because these attest the local market’s warm appreciation of the third generation City. Year 2009 is indeed very significant for the City. The third generation City has not only been introduced at the onset of the year but is also on its way in setting a new sales milestone. With City sales averaging to 3,400 units per year, the new City already hit more than 8,000 sales mark with still one month to go before the year ends. We thank our dear customers and the motoring media for their nonstop support.” said Mr. Hiroshi Shimizu, President and General Manager of Honda Cars Philippines, Inc.
The third generation City presents cutting-edge design and technologies that set new standards in it class. It bears sleek and powerful stance, spacious interior with advanced audio system and comes equipped with the i-VTEC engine technology. Merging modernism with practicality, the City simply changes the rules on how subcompacts should be like.
Honda has earned good reputation for its unceasing quest to improve its products and services. The birth of the first generation City in 1996 was Honda’s response to the growing demand for automobiles in the Asian market.
Through the years, the City’s over-all value for money package gained worldwide market acceptance as it came loaded with functionality features while keeping maintenance and fuel consumption costs low.
Such key strengths paved way for the 3rd generation City to reach beyond Asia and Oceania and advance to the Middle East, Europe and Latin America.
To know more about the award-winning City, visit any of Honda’s 26 authorized dealerships in the country. Be smart and schedule a testdrive.

De La Salle University students out to make a mark in the field of solar energy technology could not have chosen a better partner to build SINAG. SINAG, the Philippines’s first solar car, was developed by dedicated and talented university students, in cooperation with what has become the Philippine Solar Car Society.
The story of SINAG is nothing short of phenomenal. A group of engineering students from De La Salle University, armed with sheer vision, intelligence and skill, supported by some of the country’s biggest companies, ventured into uncharted territory, by proposing to build the first Philippine solar car. But more than building merely a showpiece, the group also aimed to run the car in the punishing World Solar Car Challenge, not a mean feat for virtual beginners in the world of solar car technology. Conceived by fuel economy expert Hans Tholstrup in 1987, the World Solar Challenge is the biggest car race involving more than 20 countries. The race is 3,010 kilometers in distance across the Australian continent from Darwin to Adelaide.
The Philippine team, crossed every finish line in the 3-stage race, ending in 12th place over-all, besting some of the more experienced participants of the Challenge.
THE SOCIETY
The Philippine Solar Car Challenge Society, Inc. (SINAG Society) was formed after a visit to Australia a few years ago by Henry Co, the President of Ford Philippines and currently the Society’s current vice president, who was impressed by the values and international competitiveness fostered by the World Solar Challenge.
The Philippine Solar Car Challenge Society, Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit organization incorporated to promote the beneficial use of renewable energy sources –including, but not limited to, solar power. The Society aims to undertake a viable and continuing program for the study and application of renewable energy sources toward the development of a Philippine program for sustainable utilization of renewable energy.
Coming together to support the development of the first Philippine Solar Car, the society’s members are leaders of some of the Philippine top corporations. Together with students from the De La Salle University, the Society funded the completion of SINAG. To those who remember the proud moment, SINAG continued on to win the 12th place in the WSC. While the Society has committed to keep the Philippines represented in the race event, it also seeks to go beyond building solar cars solely for competition. After the initial success of SINAG at the World Solar Car Challenge (WSC) in 2007, the Philippine Solar Car Society, has taken on the mandate of developing solar energy technology in the Philippines.
The Society Board Members are from various organizations and industries but have joined together in their personal capacity to promote research and development of renewable energy sources such as solar energy. Its members’ list sounds like a veritable roll-call of the Philippines’ top executives: Ramon Agustines of Motolite as Chairman, Edgar O. Chua (Pilipinas Shell CEO), Henry Co (Ford Motor Company Chairman), Roberto Kanapi (Pilipinas Shell VP for Communications), Tammy Lipana (Chair and Senior Partner, Price Waterhouse Cooper), former Energy Sec. Vince Perez, and Greg Reichow (President, Sunpower), among others.
Like the other trustees, PSCS Chair Mon Agustines, is more than slightly enthusiastic about the potential of solar power in the Philippines. Agustines also heads Motolite, the leading automotive battery brand in the Philippines. Such is his belief in the project that Motolite is one of the top sponsors of the Philippine Solar Car project.
“Solar energy is something that is so abundant, especially for the Philippines. We believe solar energy can be the fuel of choice for transportation in the future, but it starts with awareness. Hence this year’s efforts – the songwriting contest, the launch of SIKAT, and the Roadshow across the Philippines -- are geared toward making the youth and the general public aware of the benefits of solar technology, and our potential to lead in it, as a nation,” he said, about the group’s initiatives.
By all indications, the Society is determined to create more awareness for the effort. This December, they will launch a series of activities designed, to take the solar car experience a little closer to the people. This year, too, the Philippine Solar Car Society has built a worthy successor to SINAG. Dubbed SIKAT, the Philippines’ second solar car, takes the vision of Philippine leadership in solar energy to greater heights. While SINAG introduced the Philippine Solar Energy effort to the world, SIKAT aims to make every Filipino aware of the benefits of the use of solar energy, through a series of provincial roadshows that connect it with the general public.
The members of the society are one in the view that the success of the SINAG in the solar car-racing world is a stellar example of how the Philippines can stand with the rest of the world in meeting a challenge, which requiring superior technology and skill. Recently, the Philippine solar car was on exhibit at the Mabuhay Germany 2009, an annual exposition sponsored by the German Philippines Chamber of Commerce, highlighting the Philippines’ excellence in the field of Solar technology.
”As SIKAT highlights our ingenuity, our will to lead, our capability for technology, and our commitment to the use of clean, renewable energy, SIKAT will be a source of great pride for the Philippines,” Agustines avers.

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. recently celebrated over 100,000 Civic units sold in the Philippines at the Fort Strip Plaza. The entry of the Civic in 1991 stirred the local automobile industry and set a new benchmark in its class. Gaining the attention and approval of car enthusiasts, the Civic became the country’s number one compact sedan for 5 years.
With over 100,000 Civic owners sharing the same passion for excitement and innovation, Honda builds THE CIVIC REPUBLIC – a republic of like-minded people exhibiting the same character as the Civic: attractive, fun-loving, gadget savvy, reliable and responsible.
“We have more than 100,000 Civic owners to thank for their constant trust and confidence in the Civic brand. Their support allows us in reaching another Honda milestone that we deeply value. To show our appreciation, we at Honda will not stop in looking for ways to serve our customers best.“ said Mr. Hiroshi Shimizu, President and General Manager of Honda Cars Philippines, Inc.
Throughout its heritage, the Civic always stands at the forefront of innovative advancements to meet the changing needs of the times. As years go by, the Civic has become a successful global car that provides new levels of values in its driving performance, fuel economy, ride and interior comfort, safety and environment features.
The development of the Civic is an embodiment of Honda’s challenging spirit as it defied the norms of early times to pave way for technological evolution. Rolling off in 1972, the first generation Civic was designed as a compact and nimble car to suit people’s lifestyle worldwide. The first generation Civic had front-wheel-drive to maximize space. Cars back then had rear-wheel-drive orientation. Nowadays, front-wheel drive is the mainstream system for cars around the world.
Essential in strengthening Honda’s reputation overseas was the introduction of Civic CVCC in the U.S. back in 1974. The Civic CVCC was the first car to pass the U.S. Clean Air Act, the so-called ‘Muskie Law.” The evolution of the Civic also benefited from Honda’s expertise gained from its Formula One experience. From the CVCC engine, its F1 experience led Honda in applying double wishbone suspension system to the Civic. It’s the very same suspension design that could be found in F1 racing cars and luxury vehicles. In the late ‘80s, the Civic SiR model with DOHC VTEC engine was introduced. With its VTEC technology, Honda realized an ideal engine performance that combines high power output and low fuel consumption by varying valve timing.
Through the years, the Civic brand has successfully created a name in the field of cutting-edge technologies, sporty performance, modern-day styling, remarkable fuel economy and clean emission. For these reasons, the Civic has earned several recognitions from different awarding bodies here and abroad. Internationally, the Civic has been named Japan Car of the Year for four times, AJAC (Auto Journalists Association of Canada) Car of the Year and North America’s Motortrend Car of the Year to name a few. Back here, the Civic has taken the Philippine automotive industry by storm as it won back-to-back recognitions specifically, the CAGI (Car Awards Group Inc.) Car of the Year and Auto Focus People’s Choice Automobile of the Year awards. In addition, the Civic has also won the Auto Focus People’s Choice Compact Sedan of the Year for three years in a row.
Winning the preference of car markets all over the world, the Civic has exceeded 18 million sales mark in over 160 countries. Overwhelming support of the customers has pushed the Civic in becoming Honda’s best selling model for more than 25 years.
To be part of the Civic Republic, visit any of Honda’s 26 authorized dealership in the country. For more details, check out www.hondaphil.com.

Light, Efficient, Open: Boxster Spyder Making World Debut in Los Angeles
Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is introducing a new top version of the Porsche Boxster, a light mid-engined roadster making its world debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show in December.
Weighing just 1,275 kg or 2,811 lb, the Boxster Spyder is the lightest model throughout the entire range of Porsche cars. Clearly recognisable right from the start, this new mid-engined roadster represents the true, purist form of the Porsche sports car – light, powerful, consistently open, and very efficient.
This is precisely the formula already applied in creating Porsche’s most successful road-going sports and racing cars, ranging from the legendary 550 Spyder all the way to the RS Spyder so successful in motorsport today.
The Boxster Spyder now continues this clear-cut philosophy with full homologation for the road, thus reflecting a common wish expressed by Porsche customers. The new model is entering the market in February 2010 as the third version in the Boxster range, joining the Boxster and Boxster S.
The new member of the Boxster family stands out clearly at very first sight from the other versions of Porsche’s mid-engined roadster. Quite simply because the Boxster Spyder has been developed first and foremost for driving in the open air, the low-slung, light soft top extending far to the rear serving exclusively to protect the driver and passenger from bright sunshine, wind and weather. When closed, the soft top, together with the extra-low side windows and the two striking bulges on the single-piece rear lid, boasts a stretched and sleek silhouette reminiscent of the Carrera GT.
Significantly less weight than the Boxster S, a lower centre of gravity and an all-new sports suspension give the Boxster Spyder the right kind of driving dynamics clearly reflecting the unique look of the car.
The Boxster Spyder features a 3.4-litre six-cylinder with Direct Fuel Injection upfront of the rear axle. Maximum output is 320 bhp, 10 bhp more than in the Boxster S.
Equipped with PDK Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe and the Sports Chrono Package, the new Spyder, using Launch Control, accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Again with optional PDK, fuel consumption is a mere 9.3 litres on 100 kilometres (equal to 30.4 mpg imp) in the NEDC New European Driving Cycle. Top speed, in turn, is 267 km/h or 166 mph – with the roof open.
In terms of its fundamental concept, the entire Boxster family is the successor to the legendary 550 Spyder built back in 1953, both models sharing the same mid-engine roadster concept, low weight, back-to-the-roots lifestyle, and supreme agility combined with equally outstanding driving pleasure.
The 550 Spyder was the first sports car from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen developed specifically for racing but also homologated for the road. In the years following its production, this unique Spyder weighing only 550 kg or 1,213 lb, scored numerous victories on race circuits and in the road races so popular at the time.
The 550 Spyder was followed by other extremely successful Porsche Spyders such as the 718 RS 60 in 1960.
In 2004 and 2008 Porsche dedicated a limited edition of special Boxsters bearing the additional name Spyder to these legendary racing cars. By contrast, the new Boxster Spyder is a regular, specially developed and upgraded production model with far-reaching modifications versus the Boxster and Boxster S.
Market introduction of the new Porsche Boxster Spyder will start worldwide in February 2010. The base price in the Euro countries is 53,100 Euro. Including 19 per cent VAT and national specifications, the market price of the new Porsche Boxster Spyder is 63,404 Euro.
The retail price and market launch date vary by region or country. Please contact the Porsche PR Manager of your country in order to receive country-specific information.

The world’s first vehicle that can stop itself once again added Best in Safety Features to its long list of accolades and awards. In the recently held Auto Focus People’s Choice Awards, the Volvo XC60 was the Media’s Choice as the best vehicle who offers top-of-the-line safety features.
In addition to the latest innovations such as City Safety and a further developed DSTC system, the Volvo XC60 is available with all the accident-avoidance and proactive safety technologies that Volvo Cars offers today. The Volvo XC60 is filled with Volvo’s accumulated safety knowledge and technology. It has a holistic approach to safety, taking into consideration the capabilities of the car, the traffic environment and the driver. With the City Safety technology fitted as standard, the Volvo XC60 leads in automotive safety technology today.
City Safety
City Safety is a driver support system aimed at preventing or mitigating collisions occurring at speeds of 30 kph or less. Surveys indicate that 75 percent of all reported collisions take place at speeds of up to 19 mph. In half of these cases the driver has not braked at all before the collision, mainly due to distraction. In these cases, City Safety could make a crucial difference. City Safety automatically applies the brakes if the driver is about to drive into the vehicle in front. A collision may be entirely avoided, or if this is not possible, the damage to cars and people can be reduced.
City Safety benefits everyone
A Volvo equipped with City Safety offers a range of benefits both to its occupants and to the occupants of the vehicle in front:
1. Protection of the occupants in the vehicle in front: The best protection for all involved is of course to avoid the accident in the first place - with City Safety this is often possible. However, in those cases where an accident cannot be avoided, City Safety helps reduce the force of the collision. The result is that the occupants of the vehicle in front suffer a less serious impact and may in fact entirely escape consequences such as whiplash injuries.
2. Protection of the occupants in their own car: Colliding with a vehicle in front of you can be both a physically harmful and an emotionally unpleasant experience. By reducing the speed prior to the impact, City Safety helps limit the injury risks for the occupants in the rear-ending car as well. It may eliminate them completely if the car manages to stop before colliding.
3. Potential for reduced owner costs: Even low-impact speeds can result in significant costs. City Safety helps the owner reduce time-consuming body shop repairs and insurance company hassles. Volvo is currently involved in a dialogue with insurance companies regarding lower insurance premiums for cars equipped with City Safety.
Aside from its revolutionary styling, making it the most beautiful Volvo ever, the Volvo XC60 is also equipped with powerful engines. It either comes with a fuel-efficient 2.4L turbodiesel engine that runs at 185 bhp at 400Nm of torque reaching up to a top speed of 200kph. For people who prefers more pedal-to-the-metal driving, they can opt for the 3.0L petrol engine that churns out an impressive 285 bhp at 400 Nm with a top speed of 210kph. The diesel sells for PhP3,295,000.00 while the petrol sells at PhP 3, 695,000.00.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and EuAuto Technology Limited (EuAuto) today jointly announced the official launch of their home-grown electric vehicle mycar in Hong Kong. The launching ceremony was held at PolyU campus with Mr John Tsang Chun-wah, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, Prof. Timothy W. Tong, President of PolyU, and Mr Peter Sun, Chairman of EuAuto Technology Limited as the officiating guests.
With its body designed by internationally renowned Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, mycar has obtained the World Manufacturer Identification (WMI) Code earlier this year and it went on sales in many European countries including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Austria and Denmark.
It is the first Hong Kong-developed vehicle which fully complied with European standards, and also the first home-grown vehicle to hit the international market.
This year mycar has successfully met the roadworthiness requirements stipulated by the Government’s Transport Department and has recently been granted the vehicle type-approval as a private car. It is now available for sale in Hong Kong on the condition of travelling on roads with a speed limit at or under 50km/h.
The NEV version of mycar available in the local market has also been on sales in the European market. It can travel a distance of 110km on flat roads and can reach a maximum speed of 64km/h. It requires six to eight hours to be fully charged, which can be done from any regular household socket. It is capable of running on the road for 20 km and takes only 1.5 hour to recharge fully again.
PolyU President Prof. Tong said at the ceremony, “PolyU prides itself on its quality application-oriented R&D and close ties with business and industry. The development of mycar has truly testified to the practical value and commercial potential of PolyU’s R&D pursuits. Not only does mycar go in line with the Government’s policy address in promoting the use of electric vehicles, but also turns over a new leaf in pioneering the advancement of Hong Kong’s automotive industry.”
“Before EuAuto, no automobile manufacturing business has ever been developed in Hong Kong. It was a dream to build a micro car in Hong Kong back in 2003. To make this dream come true, we know we need and we do contribute our greatest effort to engage expertise around the world. With the magic touch of the famous Italian designer Mr Giugiaro on the styling, complimented with the research and expertise from our strategic partners, PolyU, with supports from various industry partners, government, mycar team expertise from around the world: Italy, France, UK, Canada, Australia, Philippines, China and Hong Kong. This product is now able to balance the European stylish design and good quality at an affordable price to customers all over the world. Our dream of having a home-grown electric vehicle has finally come true!” said Mr Sun, Chairman of EuAuto Technology Limited.
The environmentally-friendly, zero-emission mycar will be sold at HK$97,000. To promote the use of electric vehicles, the HKSAR Government has exempted the First Registration Tax Waiver. The annual license fee costs only HK$440.
Both PolyU and EuAuto attach great importance to the further advancement of mycar. Building on the success of mycar, the team will keep up with their research and development efforts to enhance its performance and seek to integrate advanced technology to build a better electric vehicle in the near future.
At the beginning of next year, lithium-battery-driven and upgrade versions of mycar will be launched. There will be a significant improvement for the vehicle in terms of mileage and speed, in order to meet the expectation of Hong Kong’s Eco-car drivers.

Can fun driving be safe? Or, conversely, can safe driving be fun?
For Honda, at least, the answer to these questions is a resounding “yes” and more. Because for Honda, safety does not stop with the vehicle occupants. Safety extends to other vehicles’ passengers and to pedestrians. This is the essence of Honda’s tenet “Safety for Everyone”.
Safety for Drivers and Passengers
Known for their sporty and agile models, Honda makes sure that their cars’ safety features won’t be left behind either. In fact, Honda believes that fun driving go hand in hand with safe driving. Some of the features that make Honda a fun car to drive also make it a safe car to ride.
Honda’s safety measures can be classified into two: active and passive. Active safety measures are features that are manually or automatically activated in response to a safety problem or abnormal condition. Passive safety, on the other hand, involves measures that operate on its own.
Let’s start with Honda’s active safety features. Many customers associate excellent steering, handling and braking with driving performance but these qualities can also be attributed to Honda’s advance suspension design, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Traction Control System (TCS), and its anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD).
Stability and control starts with the suspension and Honda vehicles proudly stand on the acclaimed double-wishbone suspension, which provides unprecedented handling and ride comfort in all driving conditions.
VSA and TCS help keep drivers in control during an under steer or over steer condition. These features enhance handling stability while driving on wet or slippery surfaces especially during the rainy season. They also help you stay on course during acceleration, cornering, or sudden collision-avoidance maneuvers. But VSA and TCS are silent workers. With their minimal intrusion on the driving experience, most drivers don’t even notice when these lifesavers are working. The Accord and the 2.4li CR-V are both equipped with VSA while the TCS is available on the 3.5L variant of the Accord.
Honda’s ABS with EBD is another showstopper when it comes to safety. As its name suggests, the ABS prevents wheel lock-up and provides steering control during hard-braking and low-traction conditions. This is complemented by the EBD which automatically adjusts the amount of force applied to each of the brakes to maintain full control.
Moving on to passive safety features, the body structure of any Honda vehicle is designed with the unique G-Force Control technology (G-CON).
Its G-CON technology has been tried out at Honda’s real world car-to-car test facility, the world’s first indoor omni-directional crash test safety facility. G-CON is an impact-absorbing structure, which controls forces exerted on the car body and at the same time controls collision force transferred from the car body to the occupants to reduce injuries to drivers and passengers.
Another passive feature is the SRS airbags. Aside from dual SRS airbags, a more upscale model like the Accord V6 also come with front side airbags and a new-generation curtain airbags to guarantee driver and passenger safety during collision.
Safety for Others
The G-CON protects not only the vehicle occupants but also the other people involved in the collision. Its unique design reduces damage to the other vehicle involved in the collision and minimizes injury to pedestrians.
Honda vehicles have impact-absorbing front areas, the part of the vehicle most likely to injure a pedestrian and they are also designed to reduce injuries around the legs as well. The hood, front fender and bumpers are all designed to absorb impact energy.
For Honda, playing it safe doesn’t have to mean taking out all the fun. Honda’s innovative features allow drivers to experience exhilarating driving pleasure without putting their lives and the lives of others in danger. So yes, being safe can be fun and it makes fun lasts much, much longer.
Be smart and testdrive a Honda now at a dealer nearest you. For more information about Honda and its products, log on to www.hondaphil.com.

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) is offering 30% subsidy on all parts, lubricants and 10% on labor charges for flood-related repairs. To somehow help ease the burden of its valued customers, Honda cuts down its prices in consideration to the affected motorists of typhoon Ondoy.
The aftermath of the calamity has brought influx of vehicles for repairs across Metro Manila dealerships. “The typhoon has caused widespread damage in Luzon. We send our deepest sympathies to all the victims of this disaster. After the storm has passed, we have projected a significant increase in service intake of inundated vehicles. Unfortunately, such vast demand has exceeded the capacity of our dealerships, particularly Metro Manila branches. We appeal for everyone’s kind understanding of the situation. Since our dealerships can only accommodate as much cars, we advise our affected customers to kindly call first Honda’s Toll Free Hotline, 1-800-1000-HONDA (46632) and make an appointment before bringing vehicles to the dealerships to avoid inconvenience.” said Mr. Hiroshi Shimizu, president and general manager of HCPI.
At present, Honda regularly monitors its dealership network to assess the actual situation. “We are mobilizing more service people to assist dealers in any way possible. In anticipating the surge in service intake, we have ordered in advance and even expedited the deliveries of parts to ensure availability of supply.” said Mr. Danny Pedro, customer service division head of HCPI.
To prevent further damage to the vehicle, Honda advises immediate disconnection of the battery terminal or better yet, complete removal of battery from the vehicle. Honda also warned affected owners to avoid switching of ignition or starting of engine to prevent electrical short circuit. For vehicles completely submerged with floodwater, it is best to clean the car, especially the engine bay and airconditioning unit, with clean water to prevent further rust formation and corrosion.
Honda has a total of 18 authorized service outlets in the affected areas within Luzon. Apart from Metro Manila branches, Honda has less congested dealerships in Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan to accept inundated vehicles.
For more information, you may log on to www.hondaphil.com or call Honda’s Hotline numbers 1-800-1000-HONDA (46632) and 857-7240 (for callers within Metro Manila), from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday.

MANILA, Philippines. Iseway Motors Philippines, Inc.,(IMPI) the sole and authorized distributor of Chery Automobiles in the country is all set for its 3rd dealer conference this coming October 3.
“It is all systems go,” said Tito Yupangco, Dealer Network Manager of Iseway. “We are making many changes in our operations and are seeking further improvements in the business,” Mr. Yupangco continues.
Iseway sold some 2,000 vehicles since business started in 2007. The bulk of vehicle sales was for the award-winning mini-car the Chery QQ. But it also sold over 200 of the Tiggo SUV in both the 1.6L and 2.0L trim.
“Our dealers are expecting a lot from this dealer conference, since we were hit hard by the global financial crisis and resulting recession in the Philippines,” states Mr. Yupangco. “We have done several steps before this conference including a series of pre-meetings with the dealers just to make sure that we covered all the bases. We are planning for a strong showing in 2010 and our intention is to re-study the whole operations in the light of new development in Chery China.”
Chery China has recently extended its assembly operations ASEAN-member countries like Thailand and Indonesia. It already has distributorships in Vietnam and Malaysia and the Philippines is seen as a hub for further expansion in the region.
